    DESCRIPTION:
Be careful. Your small car may be a big car in disguise.
    Does you
small car look like a big car? Only smaller? Then there’s a good chance it’ll give you a lot of the same problems as a big car. Only bigger.
At Fiat, we’ve been building small cars for 70 years. If we’ve learned one thing in that time, it’s that what works for a small car usually doesn’t work for a big one.
Unfortunately, every car maker hasn’t learned that yet. So a lot of small mistakes are on the road.
Here’s how to tell if yours is one.
Does your small car have a long hood? It shouldn’t. In a small car, the room you giveth to the engine you taketh away from the people.
In the Fiat 128, only 20% of the car is for the
engine. The other 80% is for you and your luggage. As a result, the 128 not only has more legroom than any other small car, it has more than most big ones. More even than a Cadillac Eldorado, a Lincoln Continental, and a Chrysler Imperial.*
Does your car have a racy low roof? It shouldn’t. In a small car this can create an awful case of claustrophobia.
In the Fiat 128 we've scrupulously avoided the sleek look. Instead, we’ve given you more headroom than a Rolls Royce.*
Does your small car have power steering? Power brakes? Power windows? Power aerial? It shouldn’t. Things like that make a small car expensive to run, wreak havoc on gas consumption, put an awful strain on a small engine, and just plain aren’t needed.
In the Fiat 128, instead of all this gadgetry, we give you things that actually make the car perform better.
Rack-and-pinion steering, front-wheel drive, an all-independent suspension, front disc brakes, and radial tires are standard equipment. Some of these things you can’t get on big cars. Even as options.
Does your small car cost almost as much as a big one? It shouldn’t.
Unfortunately, when some car manufacturers reduced the size of their cars, they forgot to reduce the size of their price.
The Fiat 128 is priced like a small car, not like a big one. Our car isn’t a big car in disguise because we’re not big car manufacturers in disguise.

    *Automotive News Almanac 1974.
WHEN YOU CONSIDER WHAT A FIAT 128 COMES WITH, YOU PROBABLY WON’T BELIEVE WHAT IT GOES FOR.
This year, more Americans than ever will be going out and buying small cars. Many will be disappointed.
Mainly because most people, while accepting the idea of a small car, still don’t want to give up the comfort and performance of a big car.
We suggest these people take a look at a Fiat 128.
The Fiat 128 has more legroom inside than an Eldorado, yet it’s smaller outside than a Volkswagen Super Beetle.
And you’ll not only feel more comfortable sitting in it, but you’ll feel more comfortable driving it, as well.
It has a longer wheel base than Toyota and Datsun and the Fiat’s radial tires are standard (they usually run about 0 extra).
The 128 has all-independent suspension. And the same rack-and-pinion steering found in cars like Ferraris and Porsches.
The 128 has an overhead cam engine for quick acceleration, yet it still gets you about 34 miles to a gallon, according to an August, 1973 Motor Trend test. And it has self-adjusting, power-assisted front-disc brakes for quick, sure stops.
And if you live in a place where the winters are bad, you won’t believe how the Fiat’s front-wheel drive gets you through ice and snow.
The Fiat 128 comes in 2-door, 4-door, station wagon, and sport coupe models.
What exactly does each of these Fiats go for?
Why not see for yourself when t you test drive a 128 at your local Fiat showroom.
After all, if we tell you everything now, we won’t have anything left to tell you when you get there.

Afew months ago, Motor Trend magazine conducted a gas mileage test.
They wanted to find out exactly how economical economy cars really are.
    And they did.
Of the fifteen small cars that took part in the test, the Fiat 128 four-door sedan came out first with 34.821 miles per gallon.
In fact, the 128’s gasoline operating cost per mile was a miserly 1.17 cents. So close to a penny a mile that even
the people from Motor Trend were amazed.
If you’re concerned about the gas crisis, you really owe it to yourself to check out the
    mileage results above.
Because most small car makers will probably continue to talk about miles per gallon. Not about how far down the list they finished.
